Sega even mended its bridges with Nintendo, going on to develop and publish the Mario and Sonic games. Over the years that followed it branched out from its core franchises – Sonic the Hedgehog from the 2D era, and the Virtua series from the 3D era – into games as varied as Alien: Isolation, and the Football Manager, Persona, Warhammer, Total War, Bayonetta and Yakuza series. Luckily, it carried on as a software publisher. Yes, Nintendo was the constant force, and while we had the relatively new PlayStation (and the brand-new Xbox soon after) to take its place, Sega still left a big blue hole in the video game market. It was a sad day when Sega disappeared from the console market. Sega does what Nintendon’t to celebrate its 60th birthday: sells its games with an enormous, deep-cut discount.
